Stage One: Prepare the design on paper using a black felt pen.
Work out colour positions and write a colour key.
white=W
pink=P
red=R
dark red=DR (background)

Stage Two: With a soft pencil, trace the design onto the cloth using a light-box or window.

Stage Three: With hot molten wax and a brush or tjanting, wax in all areas to be white in the design.

Stage Four: The entire cloth is then dyed the lightest colour (pink).
When the cloth is dry, wax in all areas to remain pink.

Stage Five: Then dye the entire cloth the next darkest colour (red).
When the cloth is dry, wax in all areas to remain red.

Stage Six: Before dying the final colour (dark red), the wax can be carefully cracked
to let the colour seep through, creating a tracery of fine lines..
Then dye the cloth the final colour (dark red).

Stage Seven: When the cloth is dry, scrape off the bulk of the wax with a blunt knife.
Then iron out the rest between layers of clean newsprint.
A final hot ironing of the cloth fixes the dyes,and the
wax impregnated fabric is transluscent like stained glass.
